Description
A 40ft refrigerated container, often called a 40-foot reefer, carries a factory-installed refrigeration unit built into one end. Of every container option we stock, this is the one that reaches the coldest temperatures and holds the lowest humidity. The humidity is the part buyers tend to underestimate.
What goes in one
Food is the obvious answer, but low humidity is why chemicals, paper and electronics end up in reefers too: heat, mold and condensation ruin all three, and a dry cold box stops all three. At 40ft the unit is straightforward to load and access, and it handles like any other container on a truck or a forklift, so it can be moved between sites instead of being treated as a fixed cold room.
Specification
- 40ft refrigerated shipping container, also referred to as a 40-foot reefer
- Factory-installed refrigeration unit
- The coldest temperatures and lowest humidity of the container options we carry
- Protects food, chemicals, paper and similar goods from heat, mold and condensation
- Easy to load, access and handle
It is worth being clear which of the three you actually need. A working reefer costs more to buy and needs a power supply; an insulated box costs less and needs none, but it will not pull heat out of anything.
Choosing the right cold box
We also sell insulated containers, which are non-working reefers with no cooling unit, and standard containers modified with insulation. The three are not interchangeable and the difference matters before you buy. Delivery is nationwide from Greenville, TX at the flat $450 rate, payment by bank transfer.
